Position Title: Volunteer Member
Organization: International Families Justice Coalition (IFJC)
Location: Seattle, WA/Remote
Type: Volunteers/ Low Bono/Pro Bono Attorneys


Overview:

The International Families Justice Coalition (IFJC) is dedicated to providing essential legal assistance to indigent immigrant families facing domestic relations challenges. We’re looking for passionate volunteers to join our team and help us make a difference. If you’re multilingual, that’s a plus!

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Community Outreach:

• Help spread the word about IFJC’s mission and services.
• Participate in outreach activities and events.
• Distribute information and build partnerships within the community.
• Collect feedback to help improve our services.

2. Fundraising:

• Assist in organizing and running fundraising events and campaigns.
• Identify and reach out to potential donors and sponsors.
• Support the grant writing process and maintain donor relationships.

3. Client Support (For Non-Attorney):

• Assist clients during initial consultations conducted by pro bono/ low bono attorneys.
• Help clients communicate with pro bono/low bono attorneys who are assigned to work for clients.
• Assist pro bono/ low bono attorneys with filing pleadings and drafting documents including pleadings.
• Offer emotional support and guide them through the legal process.

4. Legal (for Attorneys):

• Conduct/attend consultation for clients.
• Discuss legal issues with clients.
• Conduct legal research and review and draft/edit pleadings and other documents required in a divorce proceeding.
• Appear in court for clients when needed.
• Attend depositions/hearings/mediation with clients.
• Attend CLE sessions offered by IFJC and/or review CLE materials to learn family law issues relevant to clients.o Attorneys

  • Attorneys could take cases for Pro Bono or Low Bono. For Low Bono services, fees charged to clients need to be discussed with IFJC prior to taking cases.

5. Education and Training:

• Help develop and deliver educational content for legal professionals and volunteers.
• Coordinate and facilitate training sessions and workshops.
• Assist in organizing CLE events and ensuring they meet accreditation standards.

6. Operations Support:

• Provide administrative support, including data entry and scheduling.
• Assist with managing our online presence and marketing materials.
• Help coordinate events and special projects.

Committee Participation:

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work alongside IFJC board members on committees to support and enhance our programs. Active involvement in your volunteer role could lead to leadership opportunities within these committees.

• Passion for IFJC’s mission.
• Relevant skills or experience for the volunteer role.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
• IFJC values multilingual volunteers to better serve our diverse client base.
• Willingness to commit time and effort.

Time Commitment:

• Flexible based on your role and availability. (Note: a pro bono/low bono attorney who is assigned to work for a particular matter is required to comply with the Rules of Professional Conduct in serving the clients.)
• Participation in training sessions and meetings as needed.
